What makes ALTA Health + Performance different?
The latin based definition of ‘doctor’ is teacher and that’s what any doctor should do: teach.
At ALTA Health + Performance we’ve taken the old school philosophy of adjusting a subluxation to decrease pressure on a pinched nerve in order to get things to work better and thrown it out the window. Scientific principles clearly demonstrate that if a nerve were truly pinched, it would be a medical emergency as it would quickly deteriorate and die.
Instead, we utilize the chiropractic adjustment as an adjunct to a vast box of tools designed to first get rid of your frustrating, nagging aches and pains and then, help you on your path to achieving your wildest, most ambitious dreams and goals.
For us, the chiropractic adjustment is used to facilitate the body’s ability to re-establish and maintain motion within areas that are meant to move. But to truly achieve health and wellness, we realize there is so much more that is needed beyond the chiropractic adjustment. And that usually the biggest contributors occur outside our office.
That’s why we focus on teaching you the mechanical strategies necessary to operate as a more functional human - strategies you can take out of our office and with you anywhere.
What do you mean by “Non-Traditional, Movement-Based Chiropractor”?
Pain is often the last thing to show up and the first thing to go away. Therefore, lack of pain does not mean lack of dysfunction.
For decades, Western Medicine has treated pain by telling us to take this or that medicine and to take it daily. In the way that medical doctors prescribe medication or traditional chiropractors prescribe frequent routine adjustments, at ALTA we tend to prescribe movement. Specific movement. Based on your individual mechanical dysfunctions that are currently causing and exacerbating your aches and pains - or are maybe currently non-symptomatic but setting you up for future injury and pain.
Our goal is to help you achieve your goals. It goes way beyond simply pain relief (although we do that too). We help arm you with the knowledge and a toolbox that you can use to independently and effectively take care of your own body, for years to come. We like to think it’s the difference between giving a man a fish and teaching a man to fish.
What can chiropractic care help with?
A lot! Here at ALTA Health + Performance we specialize in optimizing human movement. More often than not, it is a dysfunctional movement pattern that is the root of many cases of low back pain, spinal disc injury, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, flat feet, tendinopathy, etc.
We know these conditions can be frustrating and get in the way of your day to day activities. We’re here to help you solve any limitations they may be causing to your daily life.
We break down movement to see what is working well for you and what is not working so well for you - and then work on strengthening your connection to the areas that are not working as well as they should. When your body functions in a mechanically efficient and correct way, the aches, pains, limitations and frustrations tend to go away and stay away.
How long or often will I need chiropractic care?
While we will be there to support you 100% of the way, we don’t believe that your best interest is served by being completely dependent on us. Therefore, our first and foremost objective is to arm you with knowledge so that you can develop a sense of aptitude within your body, control over your well-being and a toolbox of self-reliancy.
The number of initial visits required varies based on each individual patient and takes into account their: personal history, extent of present condition or complaint and compliancy and dedication to home-care and exercises.
Can I use my insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies. This means that we take payment at the time of service and upon request will provide you with a detailed receipt to send to your insurance company so they can reimburse you directly. It’s always best to call your insurance company beforehand so that you know how much they will cover for out-of-network chiropractic services. As long as they cover out-of-network services, instead of paying us, your insurance will send YOU a check in the mail.
The benefit of this model is twofold. It means that you will never receive a bill from us in the mail - instead, you can opt for a check in the mail from your insurer. And more importantly, it allows us to offer longer treatment sessions with the freedom to be present and fully focused on you, to treat you the way you need to be treated for optimal results.
Are adjustments dangerous?
Chiropractors have some of the lowest malpractice insurance fees among all health-care providers. Why? Because even insurance companies recognize the remarkable low-risk associated with chiropractic. Are there times when an adjustment is not beneficial or potentially even harmful to a person? Absolutely. That is why chiropractors have to go through extensive training to obtain their license not just to adjust, but more importantly, to know when not to adjust. Additionally, please recognize that an adjustment will not cure you of disease or infection.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Patients who do not show up for an appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the total cost of the visit unless otherwise stated by the provider. This fee must be paid before a new appointment is scheduled, and will be charged to the patient’s payment account on file. Providing updates to any and all contact information is the sole responsibility of the patient.
